Diagnostic Guide for Problems with Pix
Did a Pix transaction fail or is it taking longer than usual? Follow these steps to identify the cause of the problem. Pix involves three parties: your device, your financial institution, and the Central Bank’s system. The failure could be with any of them.
Step 1: Check for Local Issues (Your Device and Data)
The most common cause of failures is on the user’s end. Check these points first:
-
Internet Connection:
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data (4G/5G). An unstable connection can prevent your bank’s app from completing the transaction.
-
Bank Application:
- Update the app: Check your app store (Play Store or App Store) for any pending updates for your bank’s app.
- Restart the app: Close the application completely and open it again.
-
Transaction Data:
- Correct Pix Key? Double-check that you entered the Pix key (CPF, phone number, email) correctly.
- Balance and Limits: Make sure you have enough balance in your account. Also, remember the transaction value limits per transfer and per period (day/night) set by your bank.
Step 2: Check the Financial Institution
If everything seems right on your end, the problem might be with your bank or the recipient’s bank.
-
Bank Instability: Many Pix errors occur because the bank’s system is slow or temporarily down.
- Check your bank’s official social media channels.
- Check your bank’s status page on a site like downdetector.com.
-
Pix “In Processing”:
- If the transaction has left your account but the status is “in processing,” it usually means there is a communication delay between the banks. In most cases, the situation resolves itself within a few minutes. Save the receipt with the transaction ID.
Step 3: Check the Pix System (Central Bank)
General failures in the Pix system are rare, but they can happen.
- General Pix Status: Check news outlets and the estaforadoar.com.br/pix page to see if a national incident is underway.
- Central Bank Communication: The BCB usually communicates massive failures through its official channels.
Specific Scenarios
- Suspected Scam or Fraud: If you were tricked into sending a Pix, contact your bank immediately and request to open a MED (Special Return Mechanism) claim. You have up to 80 days to do this. Also, file a police report.
- QR Code not working: Check if your phone’s camera is clean and if there is good lighting. If the error persists, the QR Code may have been generated incorrectly or has expired.
